FESTOOL goes mobile

Fully automated production logistics with MSB

FESTOOL uses SAP for rough production planning. Due to the complexity, the detailed production planning is to take place in an integrated MES system in the future. An upstream maximum mobile integration of the SAP modules WM, PP, QM and PM (EAM) involved is necessary for the optimal process flow. The Mobisys Solution Builder (MSB) is used at FESTOOL across areas in production logistics, production, quality management, maintenance and warehouse logistics and shipping logistics.

The mobile solution impresses the user with its pleasant, well thought-out design, as well as intelligent guidance through the application and smooth technical performance.

About the FESTOOL Group

As a subsidiary of TTS Tooltechnical Systems, the family-owned FESTOOL company looks back on successful 90 years of company history and stands for quality and perfection. The high-quality electric power tools, which are manufactured at different production sites, facilitate the daily work of many craftsmen. 80% of the products are produced in Germany and at each stage of development, the products undergo tough practical tests in the company’s own test stations. This quarantees the reliability, durability and robustness of the devices.

Mobile processes in production logistics

As a manufacturer of electric power tools FESTOOL is a specialist in the fields of wood construction, carpentry, painting and renovation work as well as paint preparation and finish. The company attaches great importance to quality, performance and a user-friendly operation of its products. They also have this aspiration on the software that maps internal production and logistics processes. After FESTOOL switched from a manual KANBAN principle to SAP WM, the processes not only had to be mobilized, but also designed to be userfriendly and networked across areas.

The company faced the following challenges:

  • Complexity: The necessary, complex posting processes in the WM overwhelm the users in the operational areas
  • Efficiency: The correct sequence of the necessary posting processes in production logistics is unclear. High error rate due to forgotten postings steps
  • High stock differences due to the manually operated supply of the production, storage of materials, as well as the commissioning
  • Inhomogeneous systemic process landscape: No cross-departmental system, interrelationships in production planning are not recognized

This has been implemented:

MSB enables a homogeneous system landscape through complete integration into SAP and cross-functional use of the mobile solution from production to maintenance

  • Regular posting processes are mobilized and easy to implement for the
user. Trained SAP key users provide first-level support for users and can
also understand and implement complex processes
  • Increased efficiency due to the well thought user menu and simple
barcode scanning: The user is only shown the tasks that are relevant to him
Error minimization through fully automated production logistics: Complex
processes in the automated shuttle warehouse and the driverless transport
    systems are kept very simple
  • Homogeneous system landscape through complete integration into SAP
and cross-functional use of the mobile solution from production to

Benefits for FESTOOL

  • High data quality through direct system integration with SAP: Quarantee
    of correct data entry
  • Process safety: Low error rate through seamless process & system
  • Cost advantage: Resource redistribution and specialization based on tailormade and fully automated processes
  • User acceptance: High degree of user satisfaction due to optimal usability
    of the application

Complex, manual processes that used to lead to some missing entries are mobilized and simplified with MSB. By using the mobisys solution, we have achieved a high user acceptance and a significantly lower error rate, all with a technically smooth performance.
